Hosting an international student can be a rewarding experience to both students and host families. By opening their home to an international student, host families are able to learn about new cultures and traditions and often create long-term relationships. Host families are key component of the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows International Program and provide a safe and caring environment for international students to study.
How can I be a successful host family?
Many students are leaving their homes and families for the first time. To be successful, host families should welcome students to join their home with an open mind and also treat them as a full member of the family.
Why should I host?
- Experience new cultures and traditions
- Build lasting relationships
- Support your local community
- Help a student adapt to life in Canada
- Monthly stipend
What do I need to do?
- Provide a private bedroom (bed, desk, chair, etc)
- Provide 3 meals per day
- Provide parental support and supervision for students in the home
What support is offered to me?
Our dedicated Homestay Coordinators work closely with our host families to provide comprehensive support to international students in the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows International Program. Various times throughout the year our homestay team provides training to both new and current host families.
