School District 42 is a public school district that serves the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows in British Columbia, Canada. The school district instructs over 15,000 students from Kindergarten to grade 12. School District 42 schools feature fully equipped modern facilities and offers a full range of academic, elective, and specialty courses including International Baccalaureate (IB), digital arts, sports academies, and music academies. The school district has a reputation for excellence and innovation with emphasis on development of fundamental academic skills and socially responsible citizens. Our family of schools includes 22 elementary schools, 6 secondary schools, a community college and a continuing education centre. International students are placed into one of our programs with the goal of fully integrating alongside their Canadian peers. A one-year secondary school program is comprised of eight courses of study, including the core subjects such as English, mathematics, social studies and sciences as well as several courses of the student’s own choice. English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is also offered to help students adjust to the Canadian school and to cope with classroom English.
All schools have an international-education team, including an administrator, an international liaison counsellor, and an ESL teacher. This team closely monitors international students’ academic progress and responds to any concerns that students may have.
Our regular school year begins in September and ends in June. We offer full year programs as well as short stay academic programs. The school day is generally from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday (approx. 188 days in session each year)
